Steven Eke has an exhaustive knowledge of the countries of the Former Soviet Union, including their societies, politics, business environments and security conditions, including crime and terrorism dynamics. From his first travels to the region during the reign of Mikhail Gorbachev, until the present day, the greater part of his working life has been linked to the region. He has lived and worked extensively in these countries, particularly Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and the countries of the South Caucasus. His flawless command of the Russian language gives him the confidence to communicate with people in the region on any subject of any level of sensitivity.
Steven was for many years the BBC World Service’s Russian Affairs Analyst, reporting developments in the region to the worldwide English-speaking audience, on radio, online and television. Later, he worked as a senior analyst for a leading London-based security and political risk consultancy, at a critical time during the region’s shifting politics (the revolution in Ukraine and the crisis caused by Russia’s annexation of Crimea). He is the holder of three professional awards.
Some of Steven’s previous clients include a leading US chip manufacturer profiling security and espionage risks to its business in Russia; a Belgian manufacturer requiring an evacuation plan for its plant and personnel in Eastern Ukraine; and one of the world’s top oil and gas companies wishing to understand the dynamics of future key influencers in Russia. He has an exceptional network of contacts across all economic sectors, as well as academia, political research, law enforcement and security agencies.
Steven has in recent times worked as a consultant to a Russia-based technology park, several Russian start-ups and software platform designers, as well as in the management of complex infrastructure projects.
